Why this exists
The decision starts with a question.
Most home design decisions start with a question: What would this look like if I changed it? Until very recently, answering that cost hundreds of pounds at a designer’s studio or weeks of mood-boarding on your phone.
With one photo and one tap, it can take thirty seconds. That shift — from speculation to visualisation — is the point of this app.
I’m a software engineer who kept frustrating himself trying to picture redesigns before committing to them. Every time I considered repainting a room or laying new flooring, I’d freeze at the materials shop and walk out. The apps I tried either looked like 90s 3D software or asked me to pretend to be an interior designer. Taro Tailor is what I wished existed: snap, pick, see, decide.
How it works
What’s actually happening
under the hood.
Your photo is sent over a secure connection to Google Gemini (specifically the Nano Banana 2 vision model), currently one of the most capable photoreal AI image generators available. Gemini reads the layout, materials, and lighting in your room, then renders a new version applying the style you picked.
The prompts that tell Gemini what to do are pre-written by us — not composed by you. That means consistent quality across rooms and styles. No fiddling with prompt engineering, no learning curve, no surprises.
Photos are deleted within 24 hours. They are never used to train models. The full data flow is documented in Privacy.
Honest disclaimer
What this isn’t.
Taro Tailor is a visualisation tool, not a renovation plan. Generated images are approximations.
- Cabinets and furniture might appear in slightly wrong dimensions.
- Structural elements (walls, beams, windows) may be reinterpreted.
- Garden plants might not be right for your climate.
Treat the output as inspiration. Use it to communicate with a designer, a contractor, or your own future self. Never use it to order materials.

Founder
Taro Schenker
Taro Schenker is a software engineer and the founder of Known by One, LLC. He built Taro Tailor as a solo project — the iOS app, the API, the prompt engineering, and this website. He’s spent the last decade shipping consumer software and chose home design as the first AI-native product because it’s a problem he’s lived inside more than once.
